Acupuncture Treatment
Acupuncture, or 'dry needling' is not offered as a stand-alone treatment but may be used for pain relief to facilitate your recovery following a full physiotherapy assessment.
Acupuncture can reduce pain by stimulating the brain and spinal cord to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals such as endorphins, melatonin (which promotes sleep) and serotonin (to promote well-being) (AACP 2013).
A variety of techniques can be used including use of Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture points, and 'trigger points' where a needle is inserted to facilitate relaxation to a specific muscle or tendon. Single-use, pre-sterilised disposable needles are used.
